Narrative Driven Society

There are some advantages of living in today's post-modern world,
the post-modern generations love relationship and love stories.

As Christians we can take advantage of these things.
Post-moderns are much more likely to accept your friendship and relationship
than they are likely to accept your religion.

But we as Christians can build on relationships. We can tell our story (or narrative), our testimony to our post-modern friends and they will listen.

The culture is ready to hear your story. They love stories. Every Christian has a story and has the ability to tell non-Christians about their story!

Remember also that research shows that it takes several hearing of the Gospel before a post-modern reacts to the Gospel message. So be persistent and be a good friend and continue to pray for them, continue to be friends with them and continue sharing the Good News with them!

Body of Christ Scripture and Illustration

Rom. 12: 4-8:

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Eph 4:11-14:

11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12
1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

12The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!"22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.

Cross Pointe Structure notes and vision

The Church is a fellowship
Acts 2:42, Rom. 14:19, 1 Cor. 11:17,18

The Church is a family
1 Peter 3:8, 1 Tim. 5:1-5

THe Church is a body
John 21:16-21, 1 Cor. 12

The Church is the sheep fold
John 10:1-30, 1 Cor. 9:22,23

Cross Pointe Structure:

Every single person at Cross Pointe has a place in the church. Every single person at Cross Pointe has a spiritual gift that the Lord has given you through the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Bill will be teaching the next series "Church 201" classes from the pulpit starting next week. We will be learning what Spiritual gifts are, how to find your spiritual gift, and finding out where everyone personally fits in the body of Christ!

Our Church is at a point where we are growing. We have huge oppurtunities to reach Lancaster, Ohio and several homes located even right here next to Main Street. Come back next week and learn more about where you personally fit in at Cross Pointe.

Body of Christ

The Church is on a mission with Christ, the head of the Church (not Bill, the elders, or lay leaders) i our world to carry out the Father's redemptive kingdom purposes.

No one individual has the total vision of God's will for a local church.
When the Church comes together, it is vital that the counsel of everyone is included.

God places members in the body as it pleases him. God made us mutually interdependent.
Apart from the body, I cannot know God's will for my relationship to the body.

Every believer has direct access to God and the church comes to know God's will when the whole church is on the same page and understands what Christ, the head of The Church is saying and asking. Not just what a pastor is saying.

A spiritual gift is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit at work in and through a person's life for the common good of the body of Christ.

The Holy Spirit decides to give assignments and enables spiritual leaders to accomplish His work.

God puts spiritual leaders and members in the body where he wants them to be.

The body is not complete without all the spiritual leaders and members God has given the body.

Members of the body should have equal concern for one another.

Spiritual leaders and members of the body have different assignments from God for the good of the whole body.

Right relationships with God are far more important than anything else. God does not add members to the body by accident. He builds the body to match the assignments.

Every single person at Cross Pointe has a place in the church. Every single person at Cross Pointe has a spiritual gift that the Lord has given you through the Holy Spirit.

As a member at Cross Pointe, we love you and we need you at Cross Pointe. You are essential for the common good of the entire church, because together as a whole we can know the Lord's will together if our relationships are right with God.

One body part cannot function properly away fro the rest of the body. An eye without a mouth or eyes is useless.

Similarly a body without an eye makes life incredibly difficult. That is why every member is so important. God puts each person in a local church for a mighty purpose to use the Gifts he has gifted each with.
